I have just noticed my tendency to make my work appear to be “higher”or“deeper”. As if superficiality is something bad.
The root cause of this tendency comes from the long years of studying and competing in art schools. That the art schools environment incentivizes “higher” and “deeper” art. So a person comes from art school aren’t even aware of what could be wrong with this base value trajectory of pursuing.
The art schools get the value direction from the entanglement with the market they serves, I get it. But it’s potentially very problematic.
Does “higher” or “deeper” means it’s correct or useful?
Does depth actually has utilities?
If so, what?
